National Centre for Regional Development, under various names, exist for more than 60 years. During this period NCRD has changed a few names, but always has worked in the same field of activities, related to the national territory, its specifics and all related research, analyses, concepts and other documents from local, regional, national and international importance.
Regional planning
Activities relating to documents and the requirement of the Regional Development Act. Mostly includes Municipal development plans, Regional strategies, Plans for development of NUTS II Regions and all related documents with these territorial and administrative structures.
Urban planning
Mostly covers activities associated with the consequences of the Law on spatial planning documents. The territorial scope of these documents is usually within one or several municipalities, settlements or their detached parts. Most often refers to Master Plans, Detailed plans (PUP) and other plans. In recent years, to these plans can be assigned also IPGVR – Integrated plans for urban regeneration and development.
International activities and projects
The National Centre for Regional Development (NCRD) over the years has performed and participated in many international projects related to its core business areas. Under various names, the center has performed independently, as part of an international team or providing their experts in projects related to urban planning, preparation of multinational analyzes, strategies and other documents. As a key organization under the Ministry of Regional Development (under its various names over the years) and subsequently as a preferred partner on important national tasks NCRD is performed expertise and various tasks in key areas for the Ministry international assignments, sometimes as a subcontractor, sometimes on a voluntary basis in order to better representation of Bulgaria in such situations.
GIS and Databases for Territory of Bulgaria
This activity is directly related and necessary for almost all projects developed in NCRD. National Centre for Regional Development has a rich database of national territory that is constantly updated. Nowadays, NCRD uses modern technologies for storing and processing data for the territory, GIS-based solutions and technologies.
